IMR Repair Shop Tracking Study Shows Shops Prefer WD for Transmission Rebuild Kits for Asian Vehicles

As it was with domestic vehicles, independent repair shops make the WD their first choice when they are looking to buy transmission rebuild kits for Asian vehicles. According to IMR Inc.’s Repair Shop Tracking Study, 66.2 percent of independent repair shops call the WD first while 25 percent of shops make the retailer the first stop for transmission rebuild kits for Asian vehicles.

“With Asian vehicles, we are seeing an even higher number of independent repair shops calling the WD first than we did for domestic vehicles (60.3 percent) when it comes to transmission rebuild kits,” said Bill Thompson, president and CEO of IMR Inc. “The retailer is the one who loses market share when it comes to Asian vehicle transmissions as they are only getting 25 percent of this business compared to 31 percent of the domestic vehicle transmission business. New car dealers get the same amount of business (8.8 percent) for both Asian and domestic vehicles. More shops must feel they get better pricing and availability for Asian vehicle transmission rebuild kits from the WD than they do the retailer.”
