Repair Shops See Rising Consumer Price Concerns and Entry-Level Part Purchases

The automotive aftermarket is feeling the ripple effects of inflation, with repair shops reporting shifts in consumer behavior. The study highlights growing price sensitivity among consumers and a notable uptick in demand for entry-level parts, reflecting broader economic pressures.

When asked how their customers’ attitudes toward repair costs have changed compared to the previous year, a striking 72% of repair shops reported that consumers are far more concerned about price, while 20% noted they are slightly more concerned.

Combined, 91% of shops observed heightened price sensitivity, a clear sign that ongoing inflation is impacting vehicle owners’ budgets. Only 8% of shops reported no change in consumer attitudes, and a mere 0.2% saw customers becoming slightly less concerned.

Repair shops also noted a significant shift in purchasing behavior, with 83% reporting that customers are slightly more likely to opt for entry-level or low-cost parts, and 4% indicating they are far more likely.

Together, 87% of shops observed an increase in demand for budget-friendly parts, reflecting consumers’ efforts to manage rising repair costs. Meanwhile, 13% of shops saw no change in part purchasing trends, and just 0.2% reported a slightly less preference for entry-level parts. This trend highlights a growing preference for affordability over premium options in the face of economic challenges.
